The Walrus' Rating:

Starring: Eric Edwards stars as Kenny, a down-and-out writer who is hired by the rich and famous Magda (Kay Parker) to ghostwrite her autobiography. Victoria Jackson, a stunning and exotic brunette (in the film she indentifies herself as Samoan) is Liza, Kenny's girlfriend. John Leslie is Lee, Magda's husband, and Joanna Storm is Claire, their daughter, who is blind. Rikki Harte is Barbara, Claire's paid companion and Lee's mistress. The entire cast is outstanding.

The great Cecil Howard produced and directed this, and the productioin is superb. From the theme song over the opening credits to the camera work, lighting, sound, editing, and sets, all is first class. The script by Anne Randall is oustanding.

The eroticism is very powerful, and often lushly lyrical. The sex acts themselves are mild by today's standards, with no anals or facials, for example. In fact, the only porn convention in use is the external cumshot. What makes the sex scenes work is the fact that we care about these characters. The main focus of the plot is the sexual awakening of the sweet and innocent Claire. When Kenny takes a natural fancy to this lovely young blonde, Liza is at first angry. Soon, she too falls for Claire, and the three develop into a very tender and loving threesome.

If this film had been produced in an R-rated version, it might well have contended for several Oscars. It is that good of a drama.

Its lack of influence today. No contemporary director would think of making a film like this, and no production company of financing it. Also, to nitpick, the image quality suffers in the more dimly lit scenes.

Only a precious few sex films deserve to be called a masterpiece, and this is one. A glorious, resounding 10
